The notorious Baron Manfred von Zorbo (Doktor Manfred von Zorbo to his
scientific peers), scion of the German Habst-Zorbo family (a branch of the
now exiled Hapsburg clan), has recently wreaked havoc upon the American
economy by releasing a strange metal-corroding agent upon the U.S. rail
system’s major transfer points in New York City and Chicago. Left
stateless after the defeat of Germany and the destruction of his ancestral
lands by Y-bombs in the Great War, the Baron is an avowed Malthusian
preaching the dangers of overpopulation and the need to curb the excesses
of over-industrialization. His very first attempt to “cull the blight of
urban sprawl” was a strike at London, but he was driven back by Her
Majesty’s Royal Air Force after a dramatic air battle.
